Author/Illustrator Visit: Ryan T. Higgins

Ryan T. Higgins, the author/illustrator of Mother Bruce will be visiting with our first and second graders later this week. My students love this book about a curmudgeonly bear who finds himself responsible for four adorable goslings. 

"Bruce the bear likes to keep to himself. That, and eat eggs. But when his hard-boiled goose eggs turn out to be real, live goslings, he starts to lose his appetite. And even worse, the goslings are convinced he’s their mother. Bruce tries to get the geese to go south, but he can’t seem to rid himself of his new companions. What’s a bear to do?"

The students shared their ideas for what happens after the last page when a newly-hatched turtle wanders from its egg straight into one of the goslings. Is mother Bruce's family getting bigger? Take a look at their ideas:
